We were all in the war together
Comments: This was a very warm memory. The war was tragic, but also unifying and enlarging. We met people from all over and we had people to our house. My father was on transport duty and he took troops back and forth to England for the Normandy invasion. It was very frightening.

Comments: This photo was found in a book written by a Filipino guerilla fighter who had fought with my father's unit.
My father, William J. (Bill) McLaughlin, was a Sgt. in the 21st Recon Troop of the American Division when General McArthur came to inspect the battlefield in the Phillipines. My father's platoon was picked to guard him.

I started out as a typist during WWII in the Department of Labor. I had two younger brothers in the Service at this time, and they visited me in Washington on their furloughs. I showed them the Lincoln Memorial, Capital, and other sights in the City.
